Schizophrenia Linked To Immune Response During Pregnancy
The latest news to hit the world, with regards to schizophrenia, is that immune reaction that takes place during pregnancy could have links with the development of schizophrenia among children.
This research was conducted by the Department of Psychology at the University of Otago. The researchers at this New Zealand University found evidence that disruption in the long-range neural synchronization among adult rats is said to occur once there has been a one-off activation of their mother’s immune system while she was still pregnant with them.
The lead author of this study, Desiree Dickerson, says that these findings are a very exciting step when it comes to understanding the mechanisms of the brain, and especially the mechanisms that are in play to underpin schizophrenia.
There is a huge body of evidence that is available; all of which points in the direction of neural synchronization. It suggests that even minor changes in neural synchronization [...]
